Calm Stress Levels and Calm Down: 5 Tips for Stress Management

Posted on Mar 21st, 2023

Stress is something that we all have to deal with in life. Unfortunately, stress levels often become too high, resulting in physical ailments and mental exhaustion. If left unchecked, stress can lead to serious health problems including depression, anxiety and heart disease. As such it’s important to take action as soon as possible to bring stress levels back under control. At Phenomenal Women Empowerment Connections, we are committed to helping you reduce your stress levels through yoga classes, personal development coaching and membership events. Here are our top five tips for calming down and managing your stress levels:

Tip 1: Practice Mindful Meditation

Mindful meditation is an effective way to reduce stress levels. It encourages you to focus on your breathing and be in the present moment, instead of worrying about things that have already happened or might happen in the future. Taking ten minutes out of each day to practice mindful meditation can significantly reduce your stress levels over time. To begin a mindful meditation practice, find a comfortable place to sit and close your eyes. Focus on your breath as it moves through your body; notice how it feels entering and exiting your nose, filling up your lungs and then releasing from them again. Once you become more comfortable with this awareness, start adding affirmations into the mix - positive statements about yourself or about the situation. This will help to reframe your mindset and create a more positive outlook on the stress you are feeling.

Tip 2: Create a Calm Space

Creating a calming atmosphere in your home or workspace can be an effective way of reducing stress levels too. You could try playing some calming music, using aromatherapy candles or having some plants around the house. All of these things will help to create a calmer environment, where it’s easier to relax and let go of any tension that is building up inside you. If possible, designate a specific corner of your room or workspace as the ‘calm space’ - somewhere that you can retreat to when things get overwhelming. Decorate this space with objects that help you to relax, and be sure to use it whenever you feel like you need to take a timeout.

Tip 3: Exercise Regularly

Exercise is another great way of relieving stress. Not only does it release endorphins - chemicals in the brain that make you feel good - but it also helps to increase blood flow throughout your body, providing more oxygen to your cells and allowing them to work better. Even just doing a few minutes of exercise each day can have significant benefits for your mental health. You could try taking up jogging or walking, going for a swim, or practicing some yoga or stretching exercises at home. Whatever form of exercise works best for you, make sure that you’re doing something regularly to help reduce stress.

Tip 4: Get Enough Sleep

Getting enough sleep is another essential component of managing your stress levels. When you’re tired and exhausted, it becomes much harder to focus on the task at hand or find solutions to problems that may arise. Aim for 8-9 hours of quality sleep each night, and try to make sure that your bedroom environment is conducive to a sound sleep - this means keeping it dark, quiet and free from distractions such as TVs or phones. During the day, make sure that you’re getting plenty of fresh air and natural sunlight too; these will help you stay energised and alert throughout the day.

Tip 5: Reach Out For Help

Finally, if you find that none of these tips are helping to reduce your stress levels, don’t hesitate to reach out for help. Talking through your worries and concerns with a trusted friend or family member can be extremely beneficial. Alternatively, there are also plenty of mental health professionals who offer counselling and therapy services - they can provide invaluable advice on how to better manage your stress levels in the long run. So don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it. You deserve to live a life free from unnecessary stress and anxiety, and there are people out there who want to help you achieve this.

No matter how stressed out you may feel, remember that effective stress management is possible with a little bit of effort and dedication. Implementing these five tips into your daily life will help to reduce your stress levels, so that you can get back to living a happy and fulfilled life.

Bonus Tip: Spend Time With Loved Ones

Finally, don't forget to make time for the ones you love during times of stress. Spending quality time with your friends and family is important for maintaining mental wellbeing - it'll give you something positive to focus on, rather than worrying about the things that are causing you distress. Plus, having someone close by who can listen to what's going on in your life or offer support when needed can be incredibly helpful in managing stress levels. So make an effort to stay connected with your loved ones and be sure to check in with them regularly. It can really help improve your mental health and wellbeing in the long run.
